Lemon juice octopus!

Some photo of my students paint an octopus and snail using the lemon juice technique I used earlier. It was a fun class and its nice to paint with something different sometime :) I will sure be posting some of the work later.

Monster Monday

A monday go by without a monster! Dont think anyone is counting anyways. Forgot to post this guy... its drawn with marker on paper.

Summer is coming and thats mean Blue Tadpole Studio will be gearing up to a fun fill summer!! Monster Monday

Been busy lately, but there is always time for Monster! This is just a quick sketch with Sharpie marker, took about 15 mins or so. He actually look like someone I know....

I've busy preparing for the summer camp. just setting up the class, doing poster and flyer, doing the web site and getting material. I am going to be so tired come summer.. :(

Monster Monday

Again, this is done by watercolour and the spots is add on by painting lemon juice on after its dry. I don't really like how it came out last week. So I try the lemon juice technique again, but with different kind of watercolour. This time, it actually create the effect I wanted.
After I was done with this monster, I have this big lemon juice, so I decide to do the same exercise with the students and this drawing become one of the sample. :) Why not kill two birds with one stone. lol
O, and the city is add on with photoshop.... I guess with out the city they will just be octopuses, or they are call octopi in plural forms...

An very nice and creative animation I came across, I like the style and colour, and also the layout look great! Dont really understand French, but by looking at their action, you can kind of understand it.

There is never enough monster, right? another week another monster! This one drawn with a marker and colour with water colour. The spots on his body are done by droping lemon juice over the paint. They turn out lighter then I expect. But for a change, NO photoshop is used in this drawing!

concentrating

Find this picture from awhile ago, infact its from the old studio. What are they doing? Its really rare that they are this concentrate and quite. It wasn't me talking in front of them for sure. The answer is..... they were watching TV!!

Dr. Seuss

At the time of Theodor Seuss Geisel's eath in 1991, his 46 children's books had sold more than 200 million copies, and his last, Oh, the Places You'll Go! (1990), was still on the bestseller lists. His books, which he both illustrated and wrote, have been translated into twenty languages as well as Braille.
Better known by his pen name, Dr. Seuss, he populated his odd and fanciful children's books with a hybrid bestiary of Wockets, Whos, Grinches, bunches of Hunches, Bar-ba-loots, red fish, blue fish, and a fox in socks. He once remarked in an interview, "If I were invited to a dinner party with my characters, I wouldn't show up."

His stories march forward at an incantatory, rhythmic pace, and are full of tongue-twisters, word play, and highly inventive vocabulary. The American Heritage Dictionary in fact credits Dr. Seuss as the originator of the word nerd, which made its first appearance in his 1950 book, If I Ran the Zoo: "And then just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch a Preep and a Proo a Nerkle a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!"

Among his most famous books is The Cat and the Hat (1957), a story about two children who find themselves home alone with a roguish, hat-wearing feline who is a study in bad behavior. With only 223 vocabulary words and much repetition, it was ideally suited for beginning readers . Green Eggs and Ham (1960) managed with a vocabulary of just fifty words to tell the story of a Seuss creature's relentless crusade to introduce a hapless furry character to a revolting dish.

These two book are my favorties among all his book. I remember reading it over and over when i was a little kids. The best children book artist ever!!

Allergy

I hate allergy season.... today the whole day, I got the runny nose and watery eye. I have tear coming out of my eyes when i am just sitting around doing nothing. I cant see, take, or even breath probably... i suck when i have to teach at the same time. I knew drawing tulips is a bad idea. haha

Just a quick drawing in photoshop. testing on inking brush and effect. I dont think you can call this a monster, I guess she is kind of a shadow creating monster... that like to eat smoking berry. I dont even know what I drew...

黃記 2009!

Couple days ago, I post one of my drawing when I was a kid. I think it would be fun if I draw the same thing again now. So here it is, 黃記 in twenty something year later! Hows thing change! lol It drawn with pencil and just a bit of gray tone in photoshop. I was going to ink it with pen, but got too lazy. I would probably finish it later. If I remember, for sure I would draw a new 黃記 in another twenty something year. haha. I wonder how will I draw then.

I drew this. Of course not recently, I drew it when I was 6 or 7, I think. It is always funny looking back at your own drawing. At least I got the prospective of the table right. haha
I remember there was a market right where used to live, and everyday coming back from school, I have to walk thru it. That's probably what I was thinking when I drew the picture.
