Dreaming of giraffe

Some of the younger kids are still not use to the school hour yet. They would just fall asleep while drawing and it will be near impossible to wake them up. September is a tough month for little kids.

Phil Hanson - Influence

This is pretty amazing!!!
The artist is Phil Hanson. He drew 30 different people that influenced his life. They were painted one on top of another on his torso. He either painted a picture of the person or an object that represents the person. Then the entire piece was peeled off! He spent 20 hours painting and had the piece on him for about 30 hours. He even slept with it. lol

Heres the site of all the 30 image in detail : http://www.philinthecircle.com/influence

Monster Monday!

Its back to school and so its all the little monsters! Drew and colour this little guy in photoshop. I think there should be more stuff falling out of his up side down back pack....

The Aftermath - my drawing room

This is where I do most of my drawing and keep all my book and reference. Its basically a room surrounded by four tables and bookshelfs. There is also a animation light table on the other side of the photo. This is probably the most messy room of all, I just don't have the time to clean up during the summer.

  1. My drawing table with layers of layers of paper on top of it.

  2. My bookshelf, they are fill with reference, books and magazine. I have four full bookshelf of book, i really do need to stop getting new one. I am just running out of shelf space.

  3. All the magazines I still need to read....

  4. I don't even know what under this pile of paper, probably art works and books.

  5. Beer make me think and coffee keep me awake, lol. There are just bottles here and there in the room. There are also toys in front of the window and on top of my computer. You can see my clone trooper and hellboy.

  6. Bills, bills, bills and more bills.....

  7. My psp. Such a bad thing to have in a work room.

  8. My tablet. That's probably the only open area on all the desks.

  9. A new sketchbook i got, but never get the time to draw on it.

  10. My cat "Tiger" keeping my chair warm :) He love my chair, sometime i think he sent more time on it than me.

The Aftermath - my "office"

I have an office or my own drawing room in the studio. A lot of people do not know that, because they think its a storage room.... You know what, i think it had become a storage room already. With summer class running for two months, random stuff just keep pouring into the room, and this is the result....

  1. A painted plate for the craft class

  2. Illustration board for shading class

  3. random book and summer class flyer and poster, on top of my "chair"

  4. My drawing table with toys on it.

  5. A painting I need to frame for someone... three month ago....

  6. Container of all sizes to contain stuff, and a iron to iron stuff.

  7. My 200 dollars jelly fish glass art work I brought in San Diego. I put it on the floor so that i wont fall to the floor and break...

The Aftermath - studio drawing table

Summer is over now, but not the mess, i am still cleaning up the aftermath... It was crazy in the studio, with different types of summer art classes running each week, things got REALLY messy! It was a mess everywhere, i just dont have the time and energy to clean up. Below is a corner of the drawing table in the smaller room. It was pretty much like this for the whole summer....

  1. Fimo clay for clay class, I brought a whole boat load of them, cost me a lot. But they are very nice to work with and the kids all like it.

  2. The circle cutter for making button and sticker for the craft class, i think the button machine is just out of the photo.

  3. My Coffee! Tim Horton's double double, they kept me going all summer. They are everywhere in the studio, if you look carefully, you can find at least five cups in the photo... (the cup is clean, I usually get double cup, I sometime just use the extra cup for random stuff)

  4. Drawing from shading class, cell painting from cartooning class and my half finish robot painting

  5. My laptop among all the mess, was using it for cartooning class.

  6. Cup from craft class and other unfinished canvas painting from painting class.

M.C. Escher

Try not to hurt you head by watching this too long....

M.C. Escher

A great master of rhythmic repetition. M.C. Escher is among the most fascinating art of the twentieth century. He was born in Netherlands, in 1898. In 1922 he went to Italy where he studied until 1934. Escher later lived in Switzerland and Belgium before returning to the Netherlands, where he died in 1972. Primarily an artist, he was also a mathematician, photographer, architect, and visionary. His works are really amazing, i sometime find myself staring at it and wander how can he come up with stuff like these.

Link to his bio and works http://www.mcescher.com/ Check out his symmetry drawings under the gallery, its pretty cool.

My robot sketch

This is the rough sketch for my painted robot. You can see originally it is not a goldfish in the robot. After i drew it, I just find the octopus is a bit cartoonly then i want.

The whole idea of having a octopus driving the robot is, I drew a cat driving a octopus robot for one of the drawing and i want to draw a octopus driving a cat robot as my second robot. Well, i got the octopus driving part, but the robot didnt look like a cat. If you look at the top of the robot, you can see a cat face there... there were even cat ear on the glass too. It doesnt end up as good as i wanted and I just scrap the whole cat robot idea. The octopus didnt even made it to the finish painting. It fun seeing how an idea changes.

Ton Schulten

One of my favorites artist, really like the way he uses colours. He is from Eastern Netherlands. Ton Schulten uses landscapes as a subject, reproducing it in a style quite his own in colourful contemporary mosaic work. Colour is one of the characteristics of his work, very intensive use of colour. The two sample are his more recent work from a couple years back. They are both oil on canvas.
This is a link for Ton Schulten works. http://www.tonschulten.nl/en/ Check out his present works.
