Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami is a prolific contemporary Japanese artist who works in both fine arts media, such as painting, as well as digital and commercial media. He attempts to blur the boundaries between high and low art. He appropriates popular themes from mass media and pop culture, then turns them into thirty-foot sculptures, "Superflat" paintings, or marketable commercial goods such as figurines or phone caddies.

Murakami’s style, called Superflat, is characterized by flat planes of color and graphic images involving a character style derived from anime and manga. Superflat is an artistic style that comments on otaku.

In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku refers to fan of, or is specialized in any particular theme, topic, or hobby. Common uses are anime otaku (a fan of anime ) and manga otaku (a fan of Japanese comic books or manga), lifestyle and subculture.

Like Andy Warhol, Takashi Murakami takes low culture and repackages it, and sells it to the highest bidder in the “high-art” market. Unlike Warhol, Murakami also makes his repacked low culture available to all other markets in the form of paintings, sculptures, videos, T-shirts, key chains, mouse pads, plush dolls, cell phone caddies, and $5,000 limited-edition Louis Vuitton handbags.

In 2008, Takashi Murakami made Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People list, and was the only visual artist to do so.

Monster Monday!

Monster Monday is back after all the bats! This one is a bit different from my monsters before.
Its been a while I drew anything manga. I used to draw manga alot, back when I am a teenager. haha, that's quite a while ago. Going back to that style after all these year was fun :)

I drew her with pen on paper. I wasn't going to colour her at all, but a quick colour on the centipedes make the whole picture stand out so much more, so I left it. When I first drew her, her body was all cover with centipedes, thats why her got a rode on, but I think now it look a bit more inteserting. Centipedes finger is scary!!!

Construction!

It is quite a mess outside of the studio these couple of weeks. The management is doing some kind of construction outside the studio. It had create alot of headache for me. Of all places, they have to park this sky jack car thingy RIGHT outside of the studio.... The first photo is shoot from inside the studio main door, that's what you see if you walk out of the door...
Hopefully they whole construction wont take too long. I just want to be safe for the kids.

Teaching business

Being an art teacher and running a business at the same time is not easy, well, at least for me. I find myself always have to take side and most of the time i ask myself this :
" Should I do what the market want, or should I tell what the market need?"
I can never find the answer...
